HOW IT STARTED...
Art Mesher is a pioneer in harnessing the integration of business communities and is considered one of the founders of SaaS networks and cloud computing. Mesher began building SaaS-based technology to automate freight processes in the 1980s and helped start and grow Vocam Systems, a logistics network software company which went public before being acquired by Pitney Bowes in 1990. Subsequently, Mesher was President of Advanced Logistics Research, where he helped leading companies such as AMR (Sabre), CSX and Caterpillar develop and deploy emerging technology-based supply-chain strategies. He also launched the Integrated Logistics Strategies Services practice at Gartner Group Inc., a leading technology research and advisory firm, and built it into one of the premiere advisors to global corporations.
“Today we have an ‘X’ exponential proliferation of the microprocessors, an ‘X’ exponential rate of speed and ubiquity of wireless networks along and an ‘X’ exponential increase of connected devices. Today’s ‘always on and always connected’ has created a ‘nowhere to run and nowhere to hide’ environment,” stated Arthur Mesher. “This Big data, Machine learning, AI, IOT, Blockchain enabled environment is creating an ‘X’ factorial increase in transparency and speed that is redefining business relationships and supporting systems. This collision, dubbed the ‘X factors’ is causing both enormous disruption and opportunity, as old business models are sunset and new business models dawn a new day. Using the 3V’s framework this session will identify the ‘X factors’ that will impact those that thrive or die as the exponential rate of change will have such velocity that the extinction threat of their processes, systems and companies will be real.”
CSCMP 2018 EDGE CONFERENCE
FIRE SIDE CHAT - COMPANIES WHO WILL "THRIVE OR DIE"
These articles follows the evolution of supply chain technology starting 1991 when the concept of Federated Networks as a method to manage heterogeneous interoperability between distributed systems was first defined by Art Mesher on bequest of Benchmarking partners fund by a National Institute of Standards (NIST) grant. This was followed in 1998 by the 3Vs [Visibility, Variability and Velocity] published at Gartner and in 2008 for the CSCMP Art published an update where he introduced the Resources in Motion framework and “Mesher law of Federation.
In 2013 the Entrusts were introduced as the “the Next big thing in SaaS”. It defined a new way 1 to deliver solutions in which a body standardizes processes and authenticates credentials to participants of federated networks. The Entrust launched multi-sided platforms, a new breed of business models.
In 2014 Art published an Omni channel update to the 3Vs of supply chain to produce the new 4Ps framework [Proliferation, Presence, Proximity and Personalization] , positioning marketing, 2 customer service and supply chain in a single holistic model.
In 2018 Art publishes 2 original pieces for the CSCMP Conference . The first article defines Network Curation as the latest evolution of service delivery model within Federated Networks. Network . Curation goes beyond the Entrust and beyond the traditional SaaS platforms as it defines a new solution delivery model that leverages the value of data for the supply chain as a continuous service.
The Second piece titled 3 vs part two : Twenty years later returns to the original frameworks of visibility variability and velocity and identifies who will thrive and die in the alway on always connected nowhere to run nowhere to hide world new world order.
